Sinfonia in C major for Chamber Orchestra

$25.00

By Marianne Martines | Edited by Nan H. Washburn | Duration: ca. 12 min.

Marianne Martines was a well-known Viennese contemporary of Haydn and Mozart. The Sinfonia in C, written when Martines was 26 years old, is representative of her works in general and of numerous orchestral works being composed during these early years of the “Classical” period. Its light, tuneful Viennese style is harmonically simple and would be structurally straightforward except for the composer’s imaginative and spicy use of different phrase lengths and contours. Her Sinfonia was performed numerous times starting in the 1980s by The Women’s Philharmonic who included it on their first commercial recording “Baroquen Treasures” directed by Maestro JoAnn Falletta in 1990.
