Grand Mass in E-flat for SATB Soloists, SATB Chorus, Organ (optional) & Orchestra, Op. 5

$50.00

By Amy Beach | Edited by Dr. Paula Ring Zerkle | Duration: ca. 64 min.

Beach started the Mass in E-flat Major, Op. 5 when she was 19 years old and saw it premiered six years later. The piece is ambitious for an early composition, calling for a large orchestra and chorus. Yet, it is easy to understand why a young, self-taught, female composer would want to prove herself in this traditionally masculine field. The beauty, drama, and lyricism of the mass shine greatly in this work. Beach and her mass deserve a place alongside other prominent 19th and 20th century composers in the choral-orchestral canon.
