Famed conductor and Critic François-Joseph Fétis led the premiere in Brussels in 1845. He was originally skeptical of the work, but was convinced of its merit after the first rehearsal. He said “Madame Farrenc has won the right to be placed among the most distinguished composers of the present day.”
